Emotional suppression is an emotion regulation strategy that is often used in Eastern or Asian cultures like in Indonesia. Emotional suppression can be related to various outcomes in marital relationships such as marital distress. This research explored the association between emotional suppression and marital distress in individuals during their first five years of marriage. 1770 married participants from various regions in Indonesia participated (mean marriage length = 23.49 months). The research variables were measured using the Emotional Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and the Revised Dyadic Adjustment Scale (RDAS). Emotional suppression and marital distress were found to be negatively correlated. Differences in the norms in various situations across the culture seemed to influence the result. Inferential statistics were calculated to determine whether there was a significant difference in individual marital distress levels based on gender, the number of children, residential status, and changes in sexual activity during the Covid-19 pandemic. Long distance marriage presents challenges and changes to family life both in terms of the quality of the marriage and the quality of parenting. This research aims to analyze the influence of marital quality and coping strategies on the quality of parenting in long distance marriage families. The approach in this research is quantitative with a cross-sectional study design. This study involved families undergoing long distance marriages with the criteria of a minimum separation of one month, having preschool aged children (3-6 years), and domiciled in Bogor Regency or City. The respondents in this study were 30 mothers. Sampling in this study used non-probability sampling with snowball sampling technique. The results study shows that the quality of marriage and the quality of the parenting environment are moderate, while coping strategies are classified as low. The results of the regression test show that the length of separation has a significant negative effect, while problem-focused coping and the child's gender have a significant positive effect on the quality of the parenting environment. There was no relationship or influence of marital quality on the quality of the parenting environment in this study. This research can be a basis for developing special support programs for long distance marriage couples as well as further knowledge in the context of long distance marriage.

Abstrak Kepuasan pernikahan merupakan isu penting untuk dibahas beberapa dekade ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman pada wanita dewasa awal yang tengah menjalani pernikahan jarak jauh. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan kualitatif dengan desain fenomenologi, untuk melihat bagaimana pengalaman partisipan dan esensi dari pengalaman tersebut. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan purposive sampling dengan memilih partisipan sesuai dengan kriteria penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat lima tema dalam kepuasan pernikahan, yaitu understanding, komunikasi, kebutuhan materi, kebutuhan psikologis dan cinta bertanggung jawab. Penelitian ini secara empirik dapat memberikan gambaran dan pengetahuan mengenai kepuasan pernikahan pada wanita dewasa awal yang tengah menjalani pernikahan jarak jauh dapat dilihat dari lima tema yang akan dibahas. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat mengembangkan keilmuan psikologi, khususnya dalam bidang psikologi keluarga. Perlunya penelitian lebih lanjut untuk memberikan pengembangan dalam ilmu psikologi keluarga. Kata Kunci: Dewasa awal; kepuasan pernikahan; pernikahan jarak jauh; pasangan hidup Abstract Marriage satisfaction is an important issue to discuss in recent decades. This study aims to explore the experiences of early adult women who are undergoing long-distance marriage. This research method uses qualitative with a phenomenological design, to see how the participants experience and the essence of that experience. The data collection technique used purposive sampling by selecting participants according to the research criteria. The results showed that there were five themes in marriage satisfaction, namely understanding, communication, material needs, psychological needs and responsible love. This research can empirically provide an overview and knowledge of marriage satisfaction in early adult women who are undergoing long-distance marriage. It can be seen from the five themes that will be discussed. The results of this study are expected to develop psychological science, especially in the field of family psychology.
