Abstract: This commentary paper is a pedagogical reflection on the interplay between variation and invariant. It begins with a brief discussion on the concept of Unity of Opposites as an ancient philosophical theme. Ancient thinking systems regarded the variation and invariant pair as a Unity of Opposites.
