“…It is well-known that diet with high levels of antioxidants may enhance life quality (Reiter et al 2005;Rizwan et al 2011) In previous reports, we showed that tryptophan administration was able to reverse the age-related changes in the circulating levels of melatonin and serotonin in both mammals and ringdoves (Aparicio et al 2007;Paredes et al 2007;Sánchez et al 2008a, b). Also, we reported that diets enriched with tryptophan itself or with foodstuffs containing high levels of this amino acid were able to both consolidate sleep in newborns (Cubero et al 2005 and improve sleep and antioxidant capacity levels in young, middle-aged, and elderly individuals (Garrido et al 2009(Garrido et al , 2010. Thus, the aim of the present work was to evaluate the effect of tryptophan-enriched cereals on sleep, serotonin, melatonin, total antioxidant capacity levels, and mood in elderly humans.…”

“…ES2342141B1) diluted in 250 ml of water. The product mix was freshly prepared every day and consisted of 18.85 g freeze‐dried cherries (equivalent to 141 g pitted fresh cherries) in equal parts of four Jerte Valley cherry cultivars (Bourlat, Navalinda, Pico Negro, and Pico Colorado), plus 7.5 g maltodextrin, and 1.5 g ascorbic acid (Garrido et al., 2009). The treatment with the nutraceutical product mix was administered for 10 consecutive days.…”

“…It is known that increased levels of circulating melatonin -produced directly by exogenous administration or indirectly by introducing it into the diet with vegetables rich in this compound -enhance the individual's antioxidant status. 15,52 As it was discovered in plants, there has been an ever-growing number of studies reporting the detection of melatonin in a variety of fruits, 29 including both tart and sweet cherry. 53,54 Cherry fruit also has a significant amount of important bioactive components such as anthocyanins, quercitin or carotenoids.…”
