A Numerotaxonomic Study of Some Species of Trifolium, Section Lupinaster

Abstract: The flavonoid patterns of 11 taxa of Trifolium L., sect. Lupinaster were examined chromatographically. On the basis of the coded data the coefficients of association between the various taxa were determined and a hierarchic system based on chemical evidence established. The methods permitted objective numerotaxonomical use of chromatography to establish and support hierarchic systems and to express the relationships in definite and comparable mathematical terms. T. parryi and T. parryi salictorum were found to… Show more

“…classification of the flowering plants, employing numerical taxonomic approaches based on morphological characters (e.g., Morishima and Oka, 1960;Heiser, Soria, and Burton, 1965;Solbrig, 1970). Numerical taxonomic approaches have also been employed in the presentation of biochemical data by several workers, e.g., Parups et al (1966) on the flavonoids of Trifolium; Stone. Adrouny, and Flake (1969) on the nut oils of Carya; Adams and Turner (1970) on the terpenoids of the populations of Juniperus ashei; and Adams (1972) on the populations of Juniperus pinchotii.…”
