SummaryA high frequency resolution digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) is proposed for wireless transceivers, in which the scheme adopts an optimized cascaded differential switched‐capacitor (SC) ladder and a low‐coupled eight‐shaped transformer. The frequency resolution is further improved by the low electromagnetic coupling effect between the primary and secondary coils of the on‐chip transformer, thus reducing quantization noise and phase noise. An eight‐shaped transformer designed using two coils cross‐connected each other is adopted to reduce the magnetic coupling and frequency pulling. The proposed DCO is implemented in a TSMC 180‐nm CMOS process, and a tuning range of 36.7% from 3.83 to 5.55 GHz with a frequency resolution of 17 kHz is achieved. The phase noise is −120.29 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from the 3.83 GHz carrier frequency. The DCO consumes 9.26 mA from a 1.8 V supply, while the figure of merit with tuning range is −191 dBc/Hz. The chip size is 0.294 mm2.

This paper employed an electrical circuit simulator to investigate an electrodynamic suspension system (EDS) for passenger rail transport applications. Focusing on a null-flux suspension system utilizing figure-eight-shaped coils (8-shaped coils), the aim was to characterize the three primary electromagnetic forces generated in an EDS and to compare the findings with existing literature. The dynamic circuit theory (DCT) approach was utilized to model the system as an electrical circuit with lumped parameters, and mutual inductance values between the superconducting (SC) coil and the upper and lower loops of the 8-shaped coil were calculated and inputted into the simulator. The results were compared with experimental data obtained from the Yamanashi test track. The comparison demonstrated close alignment between the theoretical expectations and the obtained experimental curves, validating the accuracy of the proposed model. The study highlights the advantages of this new approach, including faster computation times and efficient implementation of modifications. Overall, this work contributes to the ongoing development and optimization of null-flux suspension Maglev systems.

High temperature superconducting (HTS) maglev technology has attracted considerable attention from researchers around the world. It provides a new direction of development for urban rail and high-speed rail transit due to its considerable advantages of frictionless transportation, low noise, and environmental protection. HTS bulk materials are able to provide a significant performance advantage to maglev technology and are a key component to achieving both levitation and vehicle guidance. HTS bulk samples with enhanced flux pinning characteristics can enable improved curve negotiating ability and lateral stability for the maglev vehicle. This paper reports the results of experiments on the dynamic guidance force of single grain Y-Ba-Cu-O (YBCO) and Gd-Ba-Cu-O (GdBCO) bulk HTS single grains in order to explore their potential for enhanced maglev guidance performance. A customized HTS maglev dynamic measurement system (SCML-03) with a rotating, circular permanent magnet guideway (PMG) was employed to simulate the dynamic operation of the HTS vehicle above the PMG at different translational speeds. It was observed from the experimental results that the GdBCO bulk superconductor is more able to resist the attenuation of the dynamic guidance force compared to YBCO under the same operational conditions. In addition, the GdBCO bulk single grain is more able to return to the original equilibrium position following exposure to an external displacement. It is concluded that the GdBCO bulk single grain offers greater potential than YBCO for practical application in HTS maglev given its enhanced guidance performance. The results of these tests provide an important benchmark for the future design of HTS maglev systems.
