A numerical approach to predict soil bearing potential for isolated footing

Abstract: <p>The success of any civil engineering structure's foundation design depends upon the accuracy of estimation of soil’s ultimate bearing capacity. Numerous numerical approaches have been proposed to estimate the foundation's bearing capacity value to avoid repetitive and expensive experimental work. All these models have their advantages and disadvantages. In this study, we compiled all the governing equations mentioned in Bureau of Indian standard IS:6403-1981 and modify the equati… Show more

“…Governments, environmental groups and the construction sector have been working to create policies and guidelines that support ethical waste management, encourage recycling and reclamation and lessen the negative environmental effects of demolition activities 6 . In the current scenarios of sustainable development, the use of demolition waste should be explored in different fields including improving soil strength 7,8 and incorporating the demolition waste in the construction of green buildings 9 . Utilising cutting-edge methods like selective demolition, deconstruction and sophisticated sorting technologies will increase the number of valuable materials recovered from demolition waste and prevent them from ending up in landfills 10 .…”

“…(Cherubini 2000) have proposed a possible application of probabilistic methods to study shallow foundations reliability concerning their bearing capacity. (Kawa and Puła 2019, Das et al, 2021;Hinge et al, 2021)) has examined a three-dimensional model analysis of load bearing capacity of square and strip footing considering a rigid type of foundation with smooth surface and it has been found that three-dimensional model analyses is suitable for strip footing problem. The effect of interaction between closely spaced square footings resting on granular soil on their bearing capacity has also been studied by Fuentes et al using threedimensional boundary value problems constructed with the software Abaqus standard (Fuentes et al 2019).…”
