A Novel Wire‐Type Lead‐Selective Electrode Based on Bis (1'‐Hydroxy‐2'‐Acetonaphthone)‐2,2'‐Diiminodiethylamine

Abstract: The preparation of a lead-selective electrode based on bis(1'-hydroxy-2'-acetonaphthone)-2,2'-diiminodiethylamine (L) as sensing material is reported. The plasticized PVC membrane containing 30% PVC, 67% ortho-nitrophenyloctylether (NPOE) and 3% ionophore L was directly coated on a graphite rod. This electrode exhibits a nearly Nernstian slope of 27.8+/-0.2 mV decade(-1) over a concentration range 10(-6)-10(-2) M with a detection limit of 4.0 x 10(-7) M. The response time of the electrode was found to be <20 s… Show more

“…Considering the well documented selectivity of nitrogen/oxygen donor ligands towards copper ions [18] and in continuation to our recent studies on the complexive, extractive and analytical applications of N x O y -type of Schiff base ligands [19][20][21], here we report a rapid, highly sensitive and efficient method for the extraction and concentration of trace amounts of Cu(II) ions from aqueous media using octadecyl silica membrane disks modified with a new N 2 O 2 -type Schiff base ligand called bis(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde)-1,2-propanediimine ( Fig. 1) and its determination by atomic absorption spectrometry.…”

“…Following our previous reports focused on the ionophoric properties of Schiff base receptors (Fathi et al 2008;Fathi and Yaftian 2009;Fathi et al 2010;Pilehvari et al 2007) and the application of modified silica nanoparticles for removal of metal ions from water samples (Shiri-Yekta et al 2013), the present study investigated the application of modified nanosilica particles (MNS) by three Schiff base ligands ( Fig. 1) named 3-methoxy salicylaldimine propyl triethoxysilane (MNS 1 ), 5-bromo salicylaldimine propyl triethoxysilane (MNS 2 ) and 3-hydroxy salicylaldimine propyl triethoxysilane (MNS 3 ) as adsorbents for removal of copper, lead, cobalt, nickel, zinc and cadmium ions from aqueous solutions.…”

“…These properties have been investigated by their application as modifier of octadecyl disks for separationconcentration of trace amounts of metal ions (Fathi et al 2010;Shamsipur et al 2000), as phase transfer agents of metal ions in liquid-liquid extraction (Oshima et al 2003), as extractant in cloud point extraction procedures (Fathi and Yaftian 2009;Shemirani et al 2006), as mobile carrier agents for the transport of metal ions through liquid membranes (Fathi et al 2008) and as sensory molecules for preparation of cation-selective electrodes (Pilehvari et al 2007).…”

“…In continuation to our studies on the investigation of ionophoric properties and analytical applications of N x O y -type ionophores [17][18][19], in this report the extractive properties of two newly synthesized N 2 O 2 -type Schiff base ligands ( Fig. 1) named, N,N -bis(2-hydroxyacetophenone)-1,2-propanediimine (L1) and N,N -bis(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde)-1,2-propanediimine (L2), towards copper(II) ions are presented.…”
