A Novel Virtual Space Vector Modulation Strategy for the Neutral-Point Potential Comprehensive Balance of Neutral-Point-Clamped Converters

Abstract: A novel Virtual Space Vector (VSV) modulation strategy for complete control of potential neutral point (NP) issues is proposed in this paper. The neutral point potential balancing problems of multi-level converters, which include elimination of low frequency oscillations and self-balancing for NP dc unbalance, are investigated first. Then a set of improved virtual space vectors with dynamic adjustment factors are introduced and a multi-objective optimization algorithm which aims to optimize these adjustment fa… Show more

“…However, its algorithm is complex and not easy to implement. In [22], [24], [25], novel modified SVPWM strategies are proposed to solve the neutral point voltage problem. In [30], a novel controller is proposed by intentionally re-injecting a third-harmonic NP current pattern with a gain modification.…”

“…Like any other NPC inverter, the neutral-point (NP) potential of the SL Zsource three-level inverter must be balanced. Various NP potential balancing methods were proposed for conventional NPC inverters [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17], most of them alter redundant small vector durations so that the average neutral wire current becomes zero and thus the NP potential is balanced. In [18], a space vector modulated NP potential balancing method is proposed for Z-source three-level Ttype inverter.…”
