A novel template protection scheme for multibiometrics based on fuzzy commitment and chaotic system

Abstract: In recent years, biometrics template protection has been extensively studied and lots of schemes have been proposed. However, most of them have not considered the forgery, large difference of intra-class and the security of unimodal biometrics leakage. And there is no multibiometrics template scheme based on the fusion of dual iris, thermal and visible face images. In this paper, a novel multibiometrics template protection scheme based on fuzzy commitment and chaotic system, and the security analysis approach … Show more

“…However, the inner functional transform is susceptible to dictionary attack (Shin et al, 2009) and the outer fuzzy vault can be cracked if an attacker knows the secret key. The integration of fuzzy commitment scheme and chaotic system (Wang et al, 2015) has some limitations despite the improvements in template security and user privacy. This is because chaotic scheme is susceptible to known plaintext attack (Li, 2016) and fuzzy vault can be compromised if an attacker knows the random secret and the only in the security and privacy of a hybrid scheme.…”

“…Some previous hybrid techniques (Bringer et al, 2008;Ao and Li, 2009;Chafia et al, 2010;Wu and Yuan, 2010;Feng et al, 2010;Ghany et al, 2012;Liu et al, 2014;Wang et al, 2015) provide information on recognition accuracy but not on security. Other approaches (Meenakshi and Padmavathi, 2010;Filho et al, 2012;Nasir and Kuppuswamy, 2013;Le et al, 2014) analyze the security of the proposed techniques without providing detailed information on the recognition accuracy.…”

“…For example, multi-algorithm fusion at feature level, multibiometric cryptosystem fuzzy vault based on fingerprint and iris [51], fuzzy commitments for face [49] and other ideas for score fusion level were successfully applied to fingerprints with security advances and many other combinations under various scenarios have been proposed during the last three years [23], [51]. The target is to provide a uniform distribution of errors [30], combining successfully the data and covering research gaps of previous works, and thus, contributing to secure, stable systems [25], [54], while offering, a fast comparison of protected templates suitable for biometric recognition in identification mode.…”

“…In particular, as a significant transmission medium, digital images may include a lot of personal privacy, confidential information and other important data, so their privacy protection gets more attention [9][10][11][12]. Encryption technology is a common means to assure the security of digital images, and has been widely used in various fields of digital image security [13][14][15][16][17]. Currently, there exist many mature block encryption schemes that are widely used in text encryption and these schemes have brilliant effects [18,19].…”

“…In 2015, the authors of [16] proposed a multibiometric template protection scheme based on fuzzy commitment and a chaos-based system, as well as a security analysis method of unimodal biometrics leakage. The chaos-based system is used to encrypt the dual iris feature vectors.…”
