Abstract:Berberine chloride was synthesized starting from pyrocatechol in overall 13.6% yield. The key steps include a Hofmann rearrangement, chloromethylation, nucleophilic substitution, hydrolysis, decarboxylation, and cyclization. All of intermediates were determined by 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, MS techniques.
In this comprehensive review, we categorically summarized the developmental trajectory of the total synthesis of these alkaloids based on the core closure strategies of protoberberine and tetrahydroberberine.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
