A novel source of fibrinolytic activity: Bionectria sp., an unconventional enzyme-producing fungus isolated from Las Yungas rainforest (Tucumán, Argentina)

Abstract: Fibrinolytic enzyme production was evaluated in fungal specimens isolated from the sub-tropical Las Yungas Pedemontana forest (Tucumán, Argentina). Proteolytic and fibrinolytic activities were evaluated in freezethaw crude extracts from 230 fungal isolates on 1% w/v skimmed-milk or 0.25% w/v fibrin-agar plates, respectively. Proteolytic activity was positive in 62% of the isolates, whilst only three of them were able to produce extracellular fibrinolytic enzymes on solid nutritive medium. Fibrinolytic-positive… Show more

“…isolated from Amazonian lichens presents clear haloes on fibrin plates indicating the ability of the produced enzymes to degrade fibrin in a direct way. Streptomyces DPUA1576 was selected as the best fibrinolytic producer (283 mm²) with enzyme activity higher than that obtained by Rovati et al (2010) in fungal specimens isolated from the sub-tropical Las Yungas Pedemontana forest (Tucuman, Argentina). It reveals the potential of Streptomyces sp.…”

“…Proteolytic enzyme activity The proteolytic enzyme activities of isolates were screened on skim milk agar (HiMedia, Mumbai, India) since fibrinolytic enzymes have a higher activity towards casein than towards albumin or other proteins (10,11).…”

“…FP, a fungal protease from Fusarium sp. Bionectria sp., from the Yungas Pedemontana forest range in Argentina has been reported to be a potential source of direct (plasminogen-independent) fi brinolytic enzymes for different therapeutic purposes (Rovati et al 2010 ). The plasminogen activation of FP was much higher than of nattokinase as assessed by thrombolytic activity experimentally (Sugimoto et al 2007 ).…”
