A novel software framework for teaching aircraft dynamics and control

Computer network and system management education is often structured based on theoretical information and it is not considered effective and efficient due to various reasons such as inadequacy of available materials and hardware. In addition, investors are reluctant to make investments on the provision of educational materials due to relatively high cost specific to this field. However, recent developments in virtualization technologies have led to the emergence of new trends in computer network and system management education. This paper provides information about the use of virtualization technology in computer network education, the utilization of real network devices, and defines a new generation network training platform. The aim of the study is to offer a new model using virtualization technology for network-based computer education. The topology additionally proposed here involves the use of real hardware instead of virtual ones, which distinguishes it from the similar topologies. This model is expected to guide future network and system managers to develop and use a real network and system management training platform that is far more effective than simulation programs. ß 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Innovative experimental model and simulation method for structural dynamic concepts

In this study, different methods to teach and visualize the motion of a single degree of freedom system for engineering undergraduate and graduate students and professionals are described. The examined concepts include the P-D effect in a single degree of freedom system. First, the theoretical background is given. Then, an experimental setup was used to verify the theory. The experimental setup consists of a steel saw with a height, h and stiffness k. An additional mass is put on top of steel saw. A new simple method to find period of a Single Degree of Freedom model is introduced. Using an acoustic method in a new way, period of the oscillating saw is determined. By digitally processing the captured acoustic waves, the period characteristics of the system are calculated. A simulation tool is also developed using Mathematica 1 software. The simulation provided the users a way to visualize the motion of the system in time along with simple animations. These simple experimental setup and simulation tool provided convenient and useful approaches to demonstrate the concepts including the P-D effect in a single degree of freedom system. ß 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Development of an educational interactive hardware‐in‐the‐loop missile guidance system simulator

This paper presents a hardware‐in‐the‐loop (HIL) simulator, named HIL‐GSS, which aims to help the students of aerospace engineering learn control and missile guidance theories effectively by using interactive instrumentation. Electromechanical components and interactive panels are illustrated. Two case‐based studies are presented to show the advantages that HIL‐GSS offers to engineering education. Steady‐state tracking errors of the PID controller based on the HIL‐GSS are around zero. The final miss distance in the real‐time HIL TV guidance engagement simulation is 0.2376 m. Those results show the reliability of the proposed HIL simulator. In addition, the students' average response to survey questions is 4.22 (1–5 grade scale), which indicates that students strongly agree or agree that HIL‐GSS is an effective educational tool.
