A Novel Soft Switching PWM Power Frequency Converter with Non DC Smoothing Filter Link for Consumer High Frequency Induction Heating

Abstract: In this paper, high frequency power converter without DC smoothing electrolytic capacitor filter link which convert the 100 V/200 Vrms and 60 Hz single phase utility frequency AC power into a high frequency AC. This proposed high frequency AC power converter without electrolytic capacitor filter can operate under a principle of soft switching PWM based on a lossless capacitor snubber is proposed and demonstrated for consumer high frequency induction heating (IH). In particular, this high frequency power conver… Show more

“…Another types of singlestage ac-ac converter have been proposed by using bidirectional switches [12] [13], but the reliability of this new type of power device is not up to the practical level. The capacitorboosted ac-ac converter that is free of the DBR, named as "bridgeless", has been proposed [14] [15], however no actively voltage regulation can be performed.…”

“…Selection of the NSDC-link capacitors C 1 , C 2 has great relevance with the PFC operation as well as the load seriesresonant frequency f r defined in (14). In order to achieve the PFC operation based on A-PWM scheme, C 1 , C 2 should be small enough to include the frequency component of two times as high as the utility frequency in v d with low distortion of the line current i in .…”

“…A number of schemes of power conversion from single-phase utility-frequency ac (UFAC) to highfrequency ac for home and professional induction heating (IH) appliances were proposed so far [2,3]; particularly, we proposed a bridgeless single-stage zero voltage soft-switching (ZVS) pulse-width modulation (PWM) controlled ac-ac converter (below referred to as merely "proposed ac-ac converter") as shown in Fig. 1 [4][5][6].…”

“…Soft switching circuits using zero‐voltage switching (ZVS) and zero current switching (ZCS) or a combination of the two have been actively developed as a countermeasure to the increasing switching loss associated with the use of higher frequencies in high‐frequency inverters that are used in induction heating and high‐frequency link dc–dc converters . The switching loss can be reduced by these soft switching circuits, but problems involving the settings of the load range arise, owing to limits on the soft switching region due to the relation between the load circuit constants and the operating frequency.…”
