A novel smooth transition strategy for BEMF-based sensorless drive startup of PMSM

Abstract: This paper proposes a novel smooth transition method, which can be applied to back electromotive force (BEMF)-based permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) sensorless vector control drive. The problem with BEMF-based sensorless control of PMSM control is the inherent BEMF estimation precision before reaching a certain rotation velocity. A position open loop constant current (I-F) method, which is compared with the classical voltage-frequency (V-F) method of asynchronous motors control, is employed by applyi… Show more

“…Sine and cosine of back-emf vector position are given by cos (θ emf ) = e α e (14) sin (θ emf ) = e β e (15) where θ emf is the position of the back-emf vector with respect to the stationary a-phase axis, and e = e α 2 + e β 2 is the magnitude of back-emf vector. Let θ r * denote the estimated rotor position using the pulse-off method.…”

“…Most of the authors use a linearly decreasing current profile [11][12][13][14]. Current profiles, which are inversely proportional to speed [15], exponentially decreasing with time [16], and with a negative slope proportional to the square of error angle [17], are also used. Furthermore, reference current reduction using a closed-loop integral control is proposed in [18].…”

“…A smooth transition strategy is adopted in the paper, which performs well under disturbance, high efficiency and without parameter requirement. I-f startup strategy consists of three stages, and they can be expressed as follows [24], [33]- [35].…”
