A Novel Smart Home Lightweight Authentication Protocol using IoT Applications

Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) introduces innovative real-time applications that use sensors to collect data that exchange between things to things and things to humans through the network. In this aspect, security and privacy is the primary concern for researchers to protect these systems. This paper proposes a real-time authentication algorithm based on the one-time pad (OTP) principle. The keys are dynamically exchanged, and the data is encrypted via dynamic encryption, depending on random sensors’ data. The … Show more

“…In addition to dynamic data classification and management, our innovative authentication technique based on the unpredictable nature of IoT applications like Smart Cars, Medical Devices, and Power Grid Systems [5,6] will demonstrate how to design a custom protocol for each of these niche areas. Proposed One-Time Pad (OTP), is the strongest and lightest encryption method, but random keys are hard to come by, and keys used just once are not predictable [7,8].…”

“…2 The lightweight continuous identity authentication protocol proposed can provide a solution for extending continuous identity authentication to IoT devices in satellite-integrated smart grid, which can alleviate the pressure of resource constrained IoT devices in computing, communication, and other aspects, and achieve lightweight and efficient authentication. However, with the development of Quantum computer, Shor algorithm, 3 Grover algorithm, 4 and other algorithms, which pose a security threat to the satellite integrated smart grid using traditional cryptographic algorithms for identity authentication, and the satellite integrated smart grid environment may be attacked by quantum. 5 The encryption mechanisms and digital signatures that resist quantum attacks are currently research hotspots, but current authentication schemes that resist quantum attacks generally require significant computational and communication costs.…”
