A novel pyroptosis-related lncRNA signature for prognostic prediction in patients with lung adenocarcinoma

Abstract: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) has been the major cause of tumor-associated mortality in recent years and has a poor prognosis. Pyroptosis is regulated via the activation of inflammasomes and participates in tumorigenesis. However, the effects of pyroptosis-related lncRNAs (PRlncRNAs) on LUAD have not yet been completely elucidated. Therefore, we attempted to systematically explore patterns of cell pyroptosis to establish a novel signature for predicting LUAD survival. Based on TCGA database, we set up a prognosti… Show more

“…Due to their lack of protein-coding potential, they were initially defined as transcriptional noises without biological functions. Nevertheless, their abundance in the mammalian genome and various coding-independent functions enable them to be actively implicated in different cellular processes [ 4 , 5 ]. Apart from the aberrant expression of protein-coding genes, dysregulation of lncRNAs, like other non-coding RNAs, is critical in tumorigenesis and cancer progression [ 6 ].…”

“…Hypoxia, a characteristic hallmark of several malignancies, is the pivotal cause of tumor progression and treatment resistance [ 13 ]. Currently, lncRNA-based risk model has increasingly gained interest as a result of its superior predictive capability [ 20 ]. However, prognostic model based on hypoxic lncRNAs has yet to be comprehensively analyzed.…”

“…For a better assessment of the scientific nature of the model building, we compared our pyroptosis-related lncRNAs signature with that of other cancers. In lung adenocarcinoma, Song et al constructed a pyroptosis-related lncRNAs signature for prognostic prediction ( Song et al, 2021 ). Their idea of finding the pyroptosis-related lncRNAs to build the model was basically similar to ours.…”
