A novel planar scissor structure transforming between concave and convex configurations

Abstract: In this paper, a novel two-dimensional scissor structure that transforms between concave and convex configurations is presented. The structure is designed by a method of assembling kite or anti-kite loops in the flat configuration. Angulated units are generated from the assembled loops. Finally, a new angulated scissor unit is introduced in order to design the novel scissor structure.

“…(Table 5). Just like the vertical kite loop assemblies the assemblies obtained from TI patterns with X-type connections go through a transformable motion as noted by Yar et al (2017) and the TG pattern of a vertical dart loop results in a linkage with scaling deployment. To the best knowledge of the authors, the scaling linkages obtained from TG patterns of vertical dart loops are not noted in the literature before.…”

“…Such transformable assemblies are issued by Yar et al (2017). A special case is obtained when the pattern is constructed on a circular arc, in which case the linkage has angular deployable motion (Table 3).…”

“…Later, Bai et al [22] focus on the connection alternatives of several types of loops, however there is no systematic approach for deriving the loop patterns. Yar et al [23] experiment with arrays of similar and different kite loops but do not investigate possible loop patterns. In order to generate possible loop assemblies, symmetry operations are used in this study.…”

“…Liao and Li [14], Kiper and Söylemez [12] also made use of rhombi for scaling planar graphs and polygons. Yar et al [19] used kite and dart loops and Gür et al [5] used antiparallelogram loops to obtain planar linkages comprising SLEs.…”
