A Novel Path Planning Algorithm for Warehouse Robots Based on a Two-Dimensional Grid Model

Abstract: In this paper, the path planning problem of goods transportation is formulated as a traveling salesman problem (TSP). A novel path planning algorithm for warehouse robots based on a two-dimensional (2D) grid model is proposed to solve this type of TSP. Firstly, we simplified the traditional pile type warehouse as a node-based 2D grid model. Then, a new concept called the largest convex polygon (LCP) is introduced to illustrate the shortest path to traverse all goods locations in an ideal condition. Next, the r… Show more

“…This work employs a differentially-steered robot with position and orientation represented by P(t) = [P x (t), P y (t)] and ψ(t), respectively. The change in the robot's position and orientation at any time, t, is determined by using the kinematic equation (1), which relates these quantities to the robot's forward and angular velocities.…”

“…TSP can be used to solve different problems. Robotics can minimize the number of machine movements, where each movement has an associated cost [67]. Distribution logistics can find the minimum path from the point of origin, Complexity passing through known places and finally returning to the point of origin [68].…”

“…e TSP is a classical combinatorial optimization problem, which is often used as a reference to model practical problems. Yang et al [14] formulated the pathplanning problem of goods transportation as a TSP. Wei et al [15] established the mathematical model of imagestitching based on the TSP.…”
