A Novel Nuclear Protein Phosphatase 2C Negatively Regulated by ABL1 is Involved in Abiotic Stress and Panicle Development in Rice

Abstract: Type 2C protein phosphatase plays an important role in the signal transduction of stress response in plants. In this paper, we identified a novel stress-induced type 2C protein phosphatase gene OsSIPP2C1 from rice. OsSIPP2C1 contains a complete open reading frame of 1,074 bp, encoding a protein with 357 amino acids. OsSIPP2C1 expression was up-regulated by high salt, PEG6000 and exogenous ABA, and enhanced in the abl1 mutant under normal, salt, or drought condition. Interestingly, OsSIPP2C1 expression was incr… Show more

“…Furthermore, phospholipase C and protein phosphatase 2C were showed to have a significant phosphoryltion changes under three stress conditions. Previous study also show that the phosphorylation levels of phospholipase C and protein phosphatase 2C is obviously affected (Li et al, 2013 ; Hwang et al, 2014 ; Wei et al, 2014 ; Zhang et al, 2014 ), which indicated that the signal pathway related to phospholipase C and protein phosphatase 2C played an important role in plants response to stress.…”

“…Up regulation of RNA helicase in 7B-1 by ABA and mannitol could be associated with B-specific stress-tolerance of 7B-1 , however down regulation of this gene in D in no stress condition and by ABA and mannitol, suggests an alternative regulatory function for this gene rather than a stress-related one. PP2Cs act redundantly in ABA signaling and stress response in plants [ 50 53 ]. PP2Cs have been reported to be differentially expressed in response to different abiotic stresses [ 51 53 ].…”

Inactivation of PP2Cs by ABA receptors, such as OsPYL5 and AtPYL enhanced drought tolerance in rice and Arabidopsis , respectively [ 51 , 52 ].…”
