A Novel Neural Networks Ensemble Approach for Modeling Electrochemical Cells

Abstract: Accurate modeling of electrochemical cells is nowadays mandatory for achieving effective upgrades in the fields of energetic efficiency and sustainable mobility. Indeed, these models are often used for performing accurate State-of-Charge (SoC) estimations in energy storage systems used in microgrids or powering pure electric and hybrid cars. To this aim, a novel neural networks ensemble approach for modeling electrochemical cells is proposed in this paper. Herein, the system identification has been faced by me… Show more

“…For the sake of completeness, in Table 6, the best PI-ENNC result on the NASA test set has been compared with the NN-based models discussed in [68] and the ECM optimized through an Hybrid-Genetic-PSO in [46]. The models selected for comparing the PI-ENNC are defined as follows:…”

“…The ELM has been set up counting ten hidden neurons with hyperbolic tangent activation function and one output neuron with linear activation. In accordance with the ELM technique, the weights of the hidden layer have been randomly initialized and the training of the output weights has been performed by solving a linear least square problem [68]. • WNN: a Wavelet Neural Network (WNN) (black box type) where the Morlet wavelet has been used as an activation function of the wavelons.…”

“…The process of these approaches can be divided into three procedures: model building, identification of model parameters, and SOC estimation [6]. Many battery models have been reported to date, e.g., the electrochemical model [16], equivalent circuit models (ECMs) [17,18], and neural network models [19][20][21][22]. The electrochemical model is rather complex and requires a large number of parameters for SOC estimation [16].…”
