A novel nanobiotherapeutic poly-[hemoglobin-superoxide dismutase-catalase-carbonic anhydrase] with no cardiac toxicity for the resuscitation of a rat model with 90 minutes of sustained severe hemorrhagic shock with loss of 2/3 blood volume

Abstract: We crosslink hemoglobin (Hb), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and carbonic anhydrase (CA) to form a soluble polyHb-SOD-CAT-CA nanobiotechnological complex. The obtained product is a soluble complex with three enhanced red blood cell (RBC) functions and without blood group antigens. In the present study, 2/3 of blood volume was removed to result in 90-min hemorrhagic shock at mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) of 30 mmHg. This was followed by the reinfusion of different resuscitation fluids, then fo… Show more

“…The results we obtained using an animal model of 90-min hemorrhagic shock with a 2/3 loss in blood volume shows that it is superior to whole blood, which was determined by observing the following parameters: lowering of elevated intracellular pCO 2 , recovery of ST elevation, troponin levels, lowering of elevated lactate, and histology of the heart and intestine. More details can be accessed from the full text of Bian and Chang (2015) freely available online at http://informahealthcare.com/doi/pdf/10.3109/21691401.2014. 964554.…”

“…In addition, hyper‐responsive BP/2 mice injected with AmEc do not produce significant antibody titers against AmEc . All of these preliminary results are promising, but further work must be conducted to characterize the potential immunological effects of other Ecs and determine the potential need for other functions besides oxygen transport (e.g., carbon dioxide transport) …”
