A Novel Monocular Vision Technique for the Detection of Electric Transmission Tower Tilting Trend

Abstract: Transmission lines are primarily deployed overhead, and the transmission tower, acting as the fulcrum, can be affected by the unbalanced force of the wire and extreme weather, resulting in the transmission tower tilt, deformation, or collapse. This can jeopardize the safe operation of the power grid and even cause widespread failures, resulting in significant economic losses. Given the limitations of current tower tilt detection methods, this paper proposes a tower tilt detection and analysis method based on m… Show more

“…In addition, we also compared our method with existing methods [16][17][18]32], as shown in Table 5. The compared methods depend on the centreline fitting to calculate the tile angle of a tower, and errors show larger once some of the sampled points for fitting are noise points incorrectly.…”

“…Obviously, the training data are difficult to be obtained. Recently, a method uses a monocular camera to collect the outline of towers from multiple perspectives, and some tower tilt models are combined to realize the calculation of the tilt angle [18], but this method needs to manually define the outline points of a tower.…”

“…Finite element and experimental fatigue results for an IPMSM rotor validated with a constant amplitude load cycle show that the calculated fatigue life is 1.6 times lower than the experimental values, which is a reasonably good calculate for fatigue life [22]. Constant amplitude load cycles have been used to evaluate the rotor fatigue experimentally to expedite the fatigue testing [23]. Experimental strain/stress data should be used to calculate the damage of a component.…”
