“…4 e), which also suggest that the peak area of − COOH decreased from 53.8 to 36.1% while the peak area of C–O increased slightly from 24.9 to 26.6%. These results indicate that the adsorbed Pb 2+ formed bidentate complexes (–O–Pb–O–) rather than monodentate complexes (–O–Pb–OH) 55 . Furthermore, the Pb4f.…”

“…The improvement of adsorption performance in low concentrations (0.001 M) can be explained by the addition of NO 3 − (from KNO 3 or Mg(NO 3 ) 2 )which can be attached on the surface of CTS/CA/BT composite hydrogel. A high concentration of Mg 2+ (0.1 mol·L −1 ) caused decline of the heavy metal adsorption capacities, and these may have resulted from diffusion rate of Mg 2+ with a smaller ion radius being greater than the that of the other ions [ 49 ]. The presence of negative ions can compete for the available adsorption receptor sites of CTS/CA/BT composite hydrogel thus diminishing the electrostatic repulsion to heavy metal ions.…”

“…BC is similar with AC, or there is no clear boundary between them in the studies and utilization of them in heavy metal adsorption. [32] Moreover, in a recent study, [33] the improvement of the ion exchange and precipitation capacity of BC can effectively improve the removal capacity of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ in wastewater.…”
