A novel method for crosstalk reduction in coupled pair microstrip lines

Abstract: This article demonstrates novel ideas for mitigation of far-end as well as near-end crosstalk in coupled pair microstrip lines (CPMLs) by means of defected microstrip structure (DMS). Simple equations and models for analysis and design of a DMS are presented and extracted. Different configurations of DMS-CPMLs are introduced, and their performances in crosstalk reduction are compared. Finally, the best configuration for farend crosstalk reduction is fabricated and tested. A maximum of 35 dB reduction in far-en… Show more

“…Currently, there has been a growing interest for research on planar filters using defected ground structures (DGS), photonic band gap (PBG), and electromagnetic band gap (EBG) [23]. Both DGS and PBG have been used for designing and improving the performances of various components, such as filters, antennas, and power amplifiers.…”

“…PBGs and EBGs have many parameters which make them difficult to design. In addition, PBG/EBG parameters also affect the band gap characteristic [23]. On the other hand, the defected microstrip structure (DMS) is of great advantages in design due to its reduced size and the feature of electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise immunity [24][25][26][27][28][29].…”

“…Defective microstrip lines structures [26] have been used for the reduction of crosstalk. The proposed work does not have any elements in between the traces, instead uses Electromagnetic Band gap in the other layer.…”
