A novel lncRNA SOX2OT promotes the malignancy of human colorectal cancer by interacting with miR-194-5p/SOX5 axis

Abstract: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) show emerging roles in colorectal cancer (CRC) development and are considered to be involved in the potential mechanism of tumor malignancy. While Sox2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT) has been implicated in the progression of multiple cancers, its role in CRC remains to be explored. In this study, in situ hybridization (ISH) and qRT-PCR were performed to establish the functional relationships between SOX2OT and CRC deranged in CRC tissue and cells. Subsequently, SOX2OT shRNAs vect… Show more

“…Interestingly, the important SOX5 role was also revealed in PCa oncogenesis and development ( 34 , 35 ). Interestingly, the miR-194-5p/SOX5 axis has been found to participate in the progression of colorectal cancer ( 36 ). All these data may indicate that the lncRNA SGMS1-AS1/miR-194-5p/SOX5 regulatory axis may also be crucial in PCa progression.…”

“…demonstrated a new triad involving SNHG17/miR-375/CBX3 that participates in the migration and invasion of COAD ( 190 ). SOX2OT,acting as a ceRNA, upregulates SOX5 through a sponge-like effect on miR-194-5p, regulating CRC cell migration and invasion ( 192 ). Sui et al.…”

“…Mechanistically, SOX2OT acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), sponging miR-194-5p and upregulating the expression of SOX5. These findings highlight the potential of SOX2OT as a diagnostic marker and therapeutic target in CRC, impacting tumor aggressiveness and therapy response while also modulating the tumor microenvironment and immune regulation [ 133 , 134 ].…”
