A Novel Hybrid Whale Optimization Algorithm to Solve a Production-Distribution Network Problem Considering Carbon Emissions

Abstract: Nowadays, there is a great deal of attention for regulations of carbon emissions to enforce the decisionmakers of production and distribution networks to redesign their systems satisfactorily. The literature has seen a rapid interest in developing novel metaheuristics to solve this problem as a complicated optimization problem. Such difficulties motivate us to address a production-distribution network design problem considering carbon emissions policies among the first studies in this area by a novel hybrid wh… Show more

“…In this study, the capacitated locationrouting problem was divided into two facility location problem and the vehicle routing problem with multiple warehouses, so that the second problem was a subproblem of the first problem. Mehranfar et al, [34] proposed a production-distribution logistics network considering carbon tax under uncertainty. A novel hybrid whale optimization algorithm was developed to address their problem.…”

“…Generally, the bi-level models are classically known as NP-hard due to complexity of a sequence optimal decisions for two levels [54][55][56]. In this regard, heuristics and metaheuristics are popular in the literature [57][58].…”

“…In recent years, regarding the issues such as lack of natural resources, government laws and environmental concerns, reverse and closed-loop supply chains has been in the center of attention of researchers and decisionmakers [6]. Due to the laws that have been passed by the government recently, the issue of sustainability must be considered in all companies and organizations [7]. Sustainable supply chain means creating a coordinated supply chain by integrating economic, environmental and social considerations with the business systems within a supply chain.…”
