A novel Gamma‐type duplex Stirling system to convert heat energy to cooling power: Theoretical and experimental study

Abstract: This article aims at coupling two Stirling machines together to produce cooling power from different heat sources. Two identical Gamma-type ST500 Stirling machines are coupled together. The first machine, named Stirling engine, is powered by burning natural gas and an electrical power supply as an auxiliary starter. The Stirling engine is connected to a second Stirling machine named Stirling refrigerator by a mechanical belt. The driving force is transferred to the Stirling refrigerator using the mechanical be… Show more

“…However, the ANN model introduced in the current study can calculate the best design parameter with the best output parameters (ie, COP, cooling power). Moreover, the difference between our previous work 49 and the current work is that in our previous work we did experimental work to investigate Stirling machines; however, the current work is based on a developed ANN model by the authors which is much faster than the previous methods.…”

“…Using this method, we can convert solar energy to cooling power. The system is believed to have acceptable COP, as investigated by Katooli et al 49 The input power for this method is solar energy, which is renewable energy. Solar energy is abundant in the Middle East; therefore, the application of this system is very cost‐effective in the Middle East.…”

“…Conventional Stirling engines come in three basic configurations, namely, α, β, and γ types. The first two types of engines are normally HTD engines, while the last type of engine is often an MTD or LTD engine [43].…”
