A novel flex sensor-based flexible smart garment for monitoring body postures

Abstract: Posture monitoring and investigation in wearable technology play a significant role in the analysis of body postures. This study aims to develop a new flexible smart garment realized by stitching flex sensors at different joint positions for sensing flexion angles in static and kinematic motions. Calibration tests were conducted by systematically flexing wrist, elbow, and knee joints, respectively. A male subject then wore the developed flexible smart garment to sense different body postures. The measured data… Show more

“…The lifting frame of the adjustable liquid crystal display (LCD) screen can flexibly adjust the height of the LCD screen and obtain a comfortable experience of using the computer. In the display system of the computer, the trajectory planning, navigation, and obstacle avoidance functions of the robotic arm of the monitor stand play key functions [10,11]. Kumar et al [12] performed a kinematic analysis of the motion degrees of freedom of the stent, thereby addressing the total inverse, rotational inverse, and forward kinematics.…”

“…In recent decades, wearable garments based on flex and FBG sensors have been produced to monitor joint body movement, plantar pressure measurement, and future to identify different postures of body joints in practice, but the developed systems cannot be washed [8,9].…”

“…Primarily, the insole of the right shoe was taken out, and a PVC sheet was cut by using scissors with the same dimensions as the insole of the right shoe. As the maximum pressure could be sustained on the insole when the man was in a standing position, four Flexi force sensors were selected and placed on the PVC insole [ 41 ]. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Flexi force sensors were, respectively, placed on the first metatarsal position, the fifth metatarsal position, the third metatarsal position, and the heel position of the insole.…”

“…Flex sensors are also used in gloves [ 39 ] to recognize sign language and health monitoring systems to measure the angle and motion of muscle joints [ 40 ]. Recently, flex sensors have been used in wearable technology for conducting real-time monitoring in the everyday environment [ 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 ].…”
