A Novel Encoded Excitation Scheme in a Phased Array for The Improving Data Acquisition Rate

Abstract: One of the challenges of phased array (PA) ultrasonic imaging systems is their limited capability to deal with real-time applications, such as echocardiography and obstetrics. In its most basic outline, these systems require emitting and receiving with the entire array for each image line to be acquired; therefore, with many image lines, a higher acquisition time and a lower frame rate. This constraint requires one to find alternatives to reduce the total number of emissions needed to obtain the whole image. I… Show more

“…(6) The application of the MEM in numerical experiments in accordance with formula (11) allowed the obtainment of an almost ideal image of scatterers from echo signals p m (t). The measurement time and the memory size for storing echo signals p m (t) are N e times lower than the time and size that are necessary for the detection by the double scanning method for the commutation matrix C nm = 1.…”

“…As a result, one will fail to obtain their high quality images. Recording echo signals in the double scanning mode will allow a decrease in this time by several times, but this may still be insufficient for high quality visualization of moving objects [6].…”

“…The synchronization algorithm proposed here for a Wavelet-OFDM receiver is based on the use of multi-level complementary sequences or Zadoff-Chu sequences as pilot signals, since they provide suitable correlation properties and a flexible length, which allow the proposal to be adapted to the number of available subcarriers for transmission. Both types of sequences have been already used in numerous sensory systems described in previous works due to these correlation properties [ 29 , 30 ].…”

“…One of its challenges is to deal with real-time applications. To improve the image qualities, many imaging techniques require more complex algorithms [5,6], possibly resulting in longer computational time and preventing them from being real-time. An ultrasound image is composed of many scanlines.…”
