A novel electro‐organic synthesis of aniline‐based copolymers at platinum electrodes

Abstract: A novel, efficient, and ecocompatible electro copolymerization of anilines at platinum electrode using acetonitrile as non-aqueous solvent and lithiumperchlorate as supporting electrolyte was carried and described here. The progress and mechanistic study of copolymerization was done using cyclic voltammetry. The reaction proceeded smoothly and quantitatively at ambient temperature.

“…As seen on cyclic voltammogram in Figure . The first well‐defined anodic peak, situated at potential of 0.2 V, SCE indicates one electron oxidation of 2‐aminopyridine , and second anodic peak, occurred at potential of ∼0.5 V, SCE denotes second electron oxidation from sp2 nitrogen of 2‐aminopyridene (Scheme ) the scan rate was 0.01 Vs −1 reference electrode corresponds to the oxidative double hydroamination of DMAD yielding imidazopyridine. It was thus proven from careful investigation of graph that there are two electron oxidations in the overall process (Scheme ).…”

“…Therefore, PAB monomer was dissolved in 0.1 mol dm À3 LiClO 4 /ACN for the electropolymerization process (Table 1). In the literature, Saraswat et al 34 have studied the electropolymerization of aniline on Pt electrode in LiClO 4 /ACN solution.…”

“…CP-based heterocycles such as polyaniline (PANI) or polythiophene (PTH) have been extensively studied because they exhibit interesting electrochemical properties [7,[10][11][12][13][14], including ease of doping or, in the case of PANI, excellent redox resistance [15,16]. Likewise, among the CPs, PTH has been considered a model concerning charge transfer as it possesses good stability under ambient conditions in its doped and undoped state [17].…”
