A Novel Dynamic Spectrum-Sharing Method for Integrated Wireless Multimedia Sensors and Cognitive Satellite Networks

Abstract: With the growing demand, Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs) play an increasingly important role, which enhances the capacity of typical Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Additionally, integrating satellite systems into WMSNs brings about the beneficial synergy, especially in rural and sparsely populated areas. However, the available spectrum resource is scarce, which contradicts the high-speed content required for multimedia. Cognitive radio is a promising solution to address the conflict. In this cont… Show more

“…In general, the technologies used in cognitive satellite communications mainly include spectrum sensing [7], beam hopping [8], shielding [9], beacon signaling [10] and beam forming [11], and so on. According to the application scenario, cognitive satellite communication mainly includes four categories: satellite communication users are secondary users [12], [13], terrestrial communication users are secondary users [14], [15], the satellite networks are used to extend the terrestrial networks [16]- [18], and spectrum sharing between satellites [19], [20]. In the first two categories, the secondary users may be satellite users or terrestrial users, while the primary users correspond to terrestrial users and satellite users, respectively.…”

“…The GE decoding algorithm is a kind of maximum likelihood (ML) decoding algorithm, which is more suitable for the short block length, i.e., the number of source symbols k is small. When the decoder receives n encoded symbols and the corresponding generator matrix G n×k , the decoding process is equivalent to solving a consistent system of n linear equations with k unknowns, as shown in (3). If the generator matrix G n×k is invertible, the decoder can successfully recover the k source symbols from the n received symbols.…”

“…Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have attracted considerable attention from both industry and academia because of their diverse applications, such as health monitoring, vehicle tracking, military surveillance, and environment sensing [1], [2]. In the WSNs, the sensor nodes collect various information and then transmit the sensed data to the base station (BS) through wireless communications, e.g., satellite communications, cellular communications [3], [4].…”
