Apart from delay to flight arrivals, occurrence of ghost aircraft from ADS-B message injection attack will also cause delay to the departure operations. Moreover, if attacks are designed meticulously, departure operations can suffer substantially with extensive flight delays and cancellations. To mitigate this incident, we propose a custom method for taxiing-out which encompasses three key components. First is by establishing situational awareness based on pivotal information about the taxiway and spoofing conditions. Next is application of dedicated algorithms to quickly capitalize available time to initiate aircraft clusters taxiing-out after temporal suspension. Lastly is the function to alternately switching clusters to recommence taxiing-out depending on changes in spoofing pattern. We simulated our proposed 'Modulated Synchronous Taxiing Approach' under several attack scenarios coupled with various taxiing-out schedules using a specially built discrete events model. Through a model that is formed based on integrated queues driven by a taxiing-out algorithm, experiment results show that our proposed approach fares better than other conventional taxiing-out approaches with more aircraft managed to get into the runway or closer to the runway. Overall, our proposed approach enhances departure operations resiliency whilst constantly maintaining safety first principle as the utmost priority amid uncertainties caused by cyberattack.

Deceptive jamming is one of the indispensable part of electronic countermeasure technology, which has a significant role in modern warfare to secure the aircrafts from imminent threats. This research work proposes a novel Frequency Diverse Array-Multiple Input Multiple Output (FDA-MIMO) deceptive jamming method for neutralizing the opponent Phase Array Radar (PAR). The proposed deceptive jamming model works in passive mode. It interrupts the opponent radar signals and after addition of the deceptive signals, the processed signals are propagated back to neutralize the surveillance operation of the intended radar. When the opponent PAR receives these signals, it perceives multiple fake aircrafts flying at different ranges along the actual aircraft with modified and up-shifted radial velocity. Further, the proposed model uses diversification in frequencies, waveforms, and time modulation to protect the flight of the preferred aircraft. The effectiveness of the proposed model is verified through several simulations in Matlab using different number of arrays, directions and ranges.

Background/Objectives: The present research focuses on comparative studies of two different type of chaff fibres for their effectiveness as electronics counter measure. Chaffs are electronic counter measures used in creating false radar signature to deceive tracking radar systems. Many types of chaff payloads are there in use, but the major one is aluminium fibres. These chaffs are designed to cover radar frequency range from 2-18 GHz. However, in future, tracking radars will operate in higher frequency range and will have improved algorithms to mitigate chaff noise of certain Radar Cross Section (RCS) threshold. Methods: The researcher used two different chaff fibres and their corresponding RCS are measured in anechoic chamber for their comparative study. Findings: It is observed that the RCS of the copper coated carbon (CuC) fiber is nearly equal to that of aluminium fiber but due their thinner diameter packing density of chaff fibres within a specified chaff cartridge volume has increased thus resulting in more number of dipole per chaff payload. Larger number of dipoles will help in improving dynamic RCS of chaff payload as it is directly proportional to the number of dipoles. Moreover, the terminal velocity of copper coated carbon fibres is lesser than that of aluminium fibres has improved the persistent time for CuCfiberwhich is a desirable parameter for the effective performance of chaff payload. Novelty: In order to increase dynamic RCS threshold one needs to increase chaff fiber density and chaff cloud suspension time. Both these can be achieved by the development of innovative thin CuCchaff fibres. In this paper, RCS of light weight and thin copper coated carbon chaff fibres were studied in comparison with traditional aluminium fibres and their advantages over aluminium fibres are reported.
