A novel compact bandstop filter using defected microstrip structure

Abstract: This article presents a six-pole high-temperature superconducting (HTS) filter with a fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 0.09% at 3.3 GHz. Twin-spiral resonators with a high quality factor (Q u ) of 69,000 are used in the design procedure. The measured results of the filter exhibit a low insertion loss of 0.62 dB and are in good Figure 6 Layout of the proposed bandstop filter using DMS Figure 7 The photograph of the fabricated bandstop filter. “…Defected microstrip structure (DMS) can be created by etching patterned structure on the signal strip and has been widely used in the applications of microwave devices [16][17][18][19][20][21][22], especially for the compact bandstop filter design due to its obvious stopband characteristic and slow-wave effect [19,20]. Here, the MS-DMS shown in Fig.…”

“…To this end, the MS-DMS and the recently presented Mshaped DMS in Fig. 1(b) [20] are simulated by the full-wave EM solver Ansoft HFSS with the same occupied area. The substrate employed in the simulations has a relative permittivity of 2.55, a thickness of 1.5 mm, and a loss tangent of 0.002.…”

“…Additionally, DMS cannot affect the ground plane. After that, lots of DMSs have been reported for the stop-band filter or pass-band filter design [8]- [11], which includes two vertical narrow slots or spurline. Moreover, these DMS structures are also used for filtering antenna and stop-band filters [12]- [14].…”

“…Recently, the various new filters based on defected microstrip structure (DMS) have been broadly studied. [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16] In [8], a novel bandstop filter comprised of two cascaded M-shape slots etched on the 50-Ω microstrip transmission line has been investigated. In [9,10], two DMS filters with single-and multi-bandgap characteristics have been reported.…”
