A novel colloidal gold immunochromatography assay strip for the diagnosis of schistosomiasis japonica in domestic animals

Abstract: BackgroundSchistosomiasis remains a major public health concern in China and an epidemiological survey has revealed that schistosome-infected bovines and goats are the main transmission sources for the disease. Therefore, development of a sensitive technique for the diagnosis of schistosomiasis in domestic animals is necessary.MethodA novel colloidal gold immunochromatography assay (GICA) strip was developed for detecting Schistosoma japonicum in domestic animals. The colloidal gold was conjugated with recombi… Show more

“…CGIA is simple, fast, and suitable for on-site detection and does not require complex operation skills or expensive equipment. Additionally, the results can be visualized with the naked eye (Xu et al, 2017;Zuo, Jiao, Zhu, & Ding, 2018). CGIA has rarely been used for the detection of TDF and TDN residues in vegetables.…”

“…Laboratory tests mainly rely on antibody detection and aetiological detection. Among these tests, antibody detection, such as ELISA 17,18 , indirect haemagglutination assay (IHA) 19,20 , and colloidal gold-based immunochromatography 21,22 , are widely used due to their advantages of simplicity and rapidity. However, because schistosome-specific antibodies can exist in the body for a long time, according to statistics, most detection systems still detect the presence of antibodies in patients within 1-3 years after treatment; therefore, a previous infection and current infection are unable to be distinguished, and efficacy assessments cannot be performed.…”

“…After that, 12 μL of 2D5 protein (1.0 mg/mL) was added into each of the tubes with sufficient mingling and then left static for another 15 min at room temperature. Conjugation of colloidal gold to antibodies was examined using a Synergy H1 microplate reader (Bio-Tek) as described ( Xu et al., 2017 ). The OD values were measured at 400–700 nm, and the optimum pH of the colloidal gold solution was analyzed by absorption curve.…”
