“…Studies have used different oils to produce biodiesel, such as soybean, 52,67 sunflower, 68,69 palm, 70,71 canola, 72 Eruca sativa , 73 fish, 74 karanja and castor, 75 Calophyllum inophyllum seed, 76 microalgae, 47,77–79 and frying oil 41 . The efficiency of these oils in biodiesel production is discussed below.…”

“…Homogeneous alkali/acid catalysts are often used in industrial catalysis. Generally, triglycerides are reacted with ethanol under the catalysis of KOH or NaOH to generate FAEE and by-product glycerol (Kuan et al, 2019) (Balat, 2011).The reaction temperature and time have received extensive attention from researchers. Homogeneous base-catalyzed transesterification is mainly a one-step catalytic process, and the commonly used catalysts are NaOH and KOH (Balat and Management, 2011).…”

“…Some fatty acid alkyl esters, such as FAEEs and FASBEs, consist of a long-chain acyl moiety with a short-chain alkyl moiety, and these esters are suitable for use as biofuel molecules. FAEE is considered as one of the main components of biodiesel, which provides an environmentally attractive alternative to fossil diesel ( Hill et al, 2006 ; Kuan et al, 2019 ); FASBE possesses a methyl branch in the alcohol portion, which affords a lower cloud point than FAEE, thus enabling superior use for energy applications in cold-climates ( Wang et al, 2012 ). Traditionally, bio-esters with the short-chain alkyl moieties mentioned above are industrially produced from plants, animals, or waste cooking oils by transesterification with alcohols ( Leung et al, 2010 ) in the presence of a base, an acid, or an enzyme catalyst.…”
