A novel chemiluminescence system for the determination of daidzein and its hydroxyl radical‐scavenging capacity

Abstract: A novel chemiluminescence (CL) system was established for the determinations of daidzein in pharmaceutical preparations and to assess its ability to scavenge hydroxyl radicals. It was shown that a strong CL signal generated when eosin Y was mixed with Fenton reagent was decreased significantly when daidzein was added to the reaction system due to partial scavenging of the hydroxyl radicals in the solution. The extent of decrease in the CL intensity had a good stoichiometric relationship with the daidzein conce… Show more

“…of clovamides. A considerable anti-free radical activity has been found for daidzein (Cai et al, 2012), genistein (Cai et al, 1997), and other isoflavones (Lengyel et al, 2013). The presence of clovamides (caffeic acid esters) in T. alexandrinum extract may additionally enhance its free radical scavenging action.…”

“…It is worth mentioning that, for these methods, the luminophore is the basis of research . For example, in Cai's study, Eosin Y was used as a luminophore to measure the ·OH‐scavenging ability of daidzein . In Liang's study, ·OH generated using an anode was captured by palmatine, and palmatine concentration could be determined using the displayed ECL .…”

“…Chemiluminescence (CL) and electrochemiluminescence (ECL) are also effective methods to evaluate the ÁOH-scavenging ability of compounds. [28,29] It is worth mentioning that, for these methods, the luminophore is the basis of research. [30] For example, in Cai's study, Eosin Y was used as a luminophore to measure the ÁOH-scavenging ability of daidzein.…”

“…The combination of a flow analysis technique with CL detection provides a simple and reproducible mean of screening a wide variety of analytes. The success of the flow‐CL technique in the field of analytical applications may be attributed to advantages such as simplicity, low cost, wide linear range and high sensitivity . In addition, as no external light source is needed, luminometers based on a simple light detection by photomultiplier tubes are consequently among the cheapest devices in the analytical field .…”
