“…The peaks at around 3400 cm − 1 were attributed to hydroxyl groups (O─H) in phenolic and aliphatic groups; The peaks at 2933 were associated to be C─H groups in methylene, methenyl and methyl groups. The peaks at 1600, 1513, and 1454 cm − 1 were attributed to aromatic stretching [44]. Distinct differences were observed after lignin modi cation.…”

“…It can be extracted from wood and annual plants, microbes (bacteria and algae) and animals (tunicates) [ 60 , 61 ]. Different extraction methods result in the varied physical forms of cellulose, such as mats [ 56 ], hydrogels [ 62 ], foam [ 63 ], nanocrystals [ 64 ], and nanofibrils [ 65 ]. Rich in hydroxyl groups, cellulose shows high affinity toward heavy metals and offers suitable platform for functionalization [ 66 , 67 ].…”

“…There is no doubt that Cr(VI) removal increases with the rise of the adsorbents dosage [ 65 ]. A higher dosage of the adsorbents can provide more active sites to react and adsorb Cr(VI) [ 138 ].…”

“…The dosage is a vital parameter for determining the adsorption capacity of ALs (Yu et al 2021). The amounts of Cd(II) and Pb(II) ions removed at different adsorbent dosages are presented in Figs.…”
