A Novel Biodegradable Composite Polymer Material Based on PLGA and Silver Oxide Nanoparticles with Unique Physicochemical Properties and Biocompatibility with Mammalian Cells

Abstract: A method for obtaining a stable colloidal solution of silver oxide nanoparticles has been developed using laser ablation. The method allows one to obtain nanoparticles with a monomodal size distribution and a concentration of more than 108 nanoparticles per mL. On the basis of the obtained nanoparticles and the PLGA polymer, a nanocomposite material was manufactured. The manufacturing technology allows one to obtain a nanocomposite material without significant defects. Nanoparticles are not evenly distributed … Show more

“…To prevent the premature aggregation of synthesized Ag 2 O NPs, a surfactant-for example, citrate, polyethylene glycol, triethylene glycol, chitosan, urea and other compounds-can be added to the reaction mixture [40,82,[96][97][98][99]. Another method for Ag 2 O NP production is the reduction of AgNO 3 using organic acids citrate, acetate and oleic acid [45,53,56]. In the literature, this method is sometimes called the sol-gel method [100].…”

“…Therefore, GS loaded PLGA-GKK encapsulated PNPs were elicited for the treatment of SSI at the localized site [133]. Additionally, synthesis of the PLGA/Ag2O NPs composite was performed by a low-temperature technique established by Smirnova et al [134]. The nanocomposite produced encouraging findings, suggesting it may be used to create materials with both potent antibacterial activity and great biocompatibility with human cells.…”

“…Currently, there is a significant growth of interest in metal oxide nanoparticles (Me x O y NPs) as compounds with antibacterial potential, including Ag [1,2], which find many applications in technology and medicine. Despite the large number of antibiotics available for treatment, resistance to almost all of them has been confirmed.…”
