A novel bamboo sheet chair and its influence on sitting comfort

Abstract: Background In today’s economy, workers spend increasingly more time in seated positions, leading to a growing scientific interest in chair design. In this study we used body pressure distribution tests to compare a novel bamboo chair with unique structural features to other commonly-used chairs. We studied the bamboo sheet chair’s physical characteristics and comfort to provide a scientific theoretical basis for common use seat design. Show more

“…In other studies, smart beds can also utilise pressure data collected from sensor matrix array to estimate the BMI values of users by using a deep multitask neural network 38 . Secondly, the mean pressure values and tendency were generally consistent across most groups, thereby demonstrating again that mean pressure and its derivative indices can be used as important bases for furniture product development and evaluation 39,40 . Note that there was higher mean pressure in the lower BMI groups (i.e.…”

“…These statistical measures collectively enhance our understanding of the reliability and validity of the model in estimating body weight from the specified predictors, contributing to the overall robustness of the study findings. Yuan et al (2020) reported that Buttock-popliteal length, weight, body mass index, body shape and weight distribution, all have important effects on the distribution of body pressure at the human-chair interface.…”
