A Novel Audio Watermarking Algorithm for Copyright Protection of Digital Audio

Abstract: Digital watermark technology is now drawing attention as a new method of protecting digital content from unauthorized copying. This paper presents a novel audio watermarking algorithm to protect against unauthorized copying of digital audio. The proposed watermarking scheme includes a psychoacoustic model of MPEG audio coding to ensure that the watermarking does not affect the quality of the original sound. After embedding the watermark, our scheme extracts copyright information without access to the original … Show more

“…Echo hiding method is usually imperceptible, however the method is vulnerable to some malicious attacks, such as echoing and in the watermark detection process requires high complexity computation [16]. The spread-spectrum watermarking method embeds a pseudo-random sequence generated by secret owner's key into some frequency bands of the audio signal in transformed-domain [14,17,18]. In this method, firstly audio signal is transformed by Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT), or Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), and a pseudo-random sequence is embedded in some frequency bands considering the imperceptibility and robustness requirements.…”

“…During last decade, many audio watermarking algorithms have been proposed in literature [1,[11][12][13][14][15], however no method can satisfy all requirements mentioned above. Echo hiding method is one of the successful temporal domain methods [11][12][13], that embed binary bits using echo signals with different delays.…”

“…Kirovski and Malvar (2003) proposed several novel mechanisms for effective encoding and detection of direct-sequence spread-spectrum watermarks in audio signals, and the HAS shaped watermark is embedded into modulated complex lapped transform (MCLT) coefficients. Seok et al (2002) gave an audio watermarking scheme by exploiting the human perceptual characteristics of the audio signal to regulate the embedding strength, but it is not very robust to some audio signal processing such as re-sampling, requantization and compression. The current self-synchronization algorithm cannot extract feature points steadily, besides, it usually need large number of threshold values which make it more difficult to be applied (Wu et al, 1999;Li and Xue, 2003a).…”
