Abstract-The installation of domestic rooftop photovoltaic cells (PVs) are on the rise due to feed-in tariff and changes driven by environmental concerns. Even though the increase in the PV installation is gradual, their locations and ratings are often random. Therefore, such single-phase bi-directional power flow can have adverse effect on the voltage imbalance of a threephase distribution network. In this paper, a voltage imbalance sensitivity analysis and stochastic evaluation based on the ratings and locations of single-phase grid-connected rooftop PVs in a residential low voltage distribution network are presented. The stochastic evaluation, based on Monte Carlo method, predicts a failure index of non-standard voltage imbalance in the network in presence of PVs. Some improvement methods are discussed and a new improvement method based on PV converter control is proposed.

This paper presents precise assessment of steady-state performance of induction motor (IM) operating under voltage unbalance. The variation of two voltage unbalance factors viz. complex voltage unbalance factor (CVUF) and impedance unbalance factor (IUF) with positive sequence voltage component, reveals that degree and manner of unbalance in supply voltage is exactly reflected in CVUF and IUF, respectively. On this basis, it is shown that for the precise assessment of IM performance, knowledge of both, manner (IUF) and degree (CVUF) of unbalance is important. Further, effect of angle of unbalance, on the performance of the IM and voltage pattern is analyzed. Results depict high sensitivity of derating factor and peak copper losses to this angle. Thus, it should be included along with unbalance factors for the precise and complete performance assessment of IM.

Abstract. This paper presents, based on experimental tests, an analysis of the effects of unbalance voltage on temperature rise of three-phase induction motor (TIM) with a view to evaluating effectiveness of the method of measurement employed, namely the method of symmetrical components. To do so, one motor is subjected to conditions of unbalance, strategically chosen, and their elevations of temperatures measured in three-phases are displayed. Among the many results obtained, it was found for voltage combinations where the voltage unbalance factor (VUF) has values very close to 0%, the existence of temperature rises higher than those where the VUF is greater than 2%. From investigations made, it is concluded that the use of VUF as single and sufficient index for the quantification of voltage unbalance is inappropriate.
