A Novel Approach to the Design of Passive Filters in Electric Grids

Abstract: The design of shunt passive filters has been a topic of constant research since the 70’s. Due to the lower cost, passive shunt filters are still considered a preferred option. This paper presents a novel approach for the placement and sizing of passive filters through ranking solutions based on the minimization of the total harmonic distortion (THDV) of the supply system rather than one specific bus, without neglecting the individual harmonic distortions. The developed method was implemented using Matlab/Simul… Show more

“…In addition, they are integrated very easily into low-voltage (LV), medium-voltage (MV), and highvoltage (HV) networks. Passive compensators are integrated into the various structures Energies 2024, 17, 2020 2 of 36 described in the literature; these are single-tuned structures [4][5][6][7], double-tuned structures [8][9][10], triple-tuned structures [11], series passive structures [12], hybrid passive structures [13], damped structures (first-order filter, second-order filter, third-order filter, and C-filter) [14][15][16], grouped filter systems [17][18][19], etc. In addition to the different types of approaches related to the design of passive compensators, there is also the approach proposed by Czarnecki [20,21].…”
