A novel anion exchange membrane based on silicone/polyphenylene oxide with excellent ionic conductivity for AEMFC

Abstract: To achieve good stability of anion‐exchange membranes. We report an organic–inorganic composite anion exchange membrane based on polyphenylene oxide (PPO) and 3‐[2‐(2‐aminoethylamino)ethylamino]propyl‐trimethoxysilane to improve dimensional stability and mechanical stability without affecting ionic conductivity. The successful synthesis of the membranes was confirmed by FT‐IR, 1H NMR, and EDX. The SiOSi three‐dimensional network cross‐linked structure was formed inside the anion‐exchange membranes by added i… Show more

“…So, recently, a lot of attention has been paid to using PPO-based membranes, especially quaternized PPO (QPPO), in AFC systems [ 165 , 166 , 167 , 168 , 169 , 170 ]. To further improve the physiochemical properties of the QPPO AEM membrane by including various polymeric and inorganic materials with different concepts [ 166 , 171 , 172 , 173 , 174 ]. In this connection, the efficient properties of cellulose have been modified with QPPO.…”

“…Polysulfone [12], poly(arylene ether ketone) [13], polystyrene [14], polybenzimidazoles [15], poly (2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) [16] are among those polymer material that are often studied. However, it is typically necessary for them to undergo an intricate quaternization procedure involving chloromethylation of benzene and quaternization of benzyl chloride.…”

“…Most previous studies have measured the ionic conductivity of fully hydrated AEMs. [23][24][25][26] Liu et al [23] reported an organicinorganic composite AEM and investigated the effects of temperature and IEC on its ionic conductivity in deionized water. Yang et al [24] measured the ionic conductivity of novel AEMs in water at different temperatures and found that hydroxide conductivity could reach as high as 6.5 S m −1 at 80 °C.…”
