A novel analytical model of initial fracture pressure for horizontal staged fracturing in fractured reservoir

Abstract: The horizontal well-staged fracturing technology has been widely used in many oilfields to enhance well production by creating fracture network. Accurate prediction of fracture initiation is significant for successful hydraulic fracturing operation. However, hydraulic fracture initiation in fractured reservoir is highly tricky due to its rich natural fractures and artificial fractures previously created during staged fracturing. These fractures are thought to be major factors in conducting efficient staged fra… Show more

“…As indicated from the results, fracture initiation directions showed a relationship with the direction of the maximum horizontal stress. [18][19][20][21][22] For the study on the FIP prediction of radial micro-holes, Gong investigated the factors of the radial azimuth, length, and diameter of multi-radial holes on the fracture initiation pressure. 23 In the present study, the multiple groups of 3D finiteelement numerical models of micro-holes through the radial horizontal well were built by incorporating the pore hydro-mechanical coupling effects based on the ABAQUS.…”

“…In recent years, a large proportion of newly discovered oil and gas resources in China has the characteristics of low porosity, low permeability, and low fluidity 1‐4 . The task of stabilizing oil production in old oilfields is arduous, and a cost‐effective technology is urgently needed to tap the potentials of such resources, increase the production and injection, and increase the ultimate recovery of oilfields.…”
