“…Multiple markers were identified in the intron of FAM184B in this study, and the five markers (on Chr03: 112842618, Chr03: 112844307, Chr03: 112841876, Chr03: 112846240, and Chr03: 112845554) were located on a haplotype block, suggesting that they may perform their functions together. GWAS revealed that the top variant of TBX3 was located on Chr08: 42740082, which is different from the marker identified in a previous study (Wang et al, 2021). A variant on Chr19: 19806595, located 4999 bp downstream of IHH, had the largest delta value among all loci, which was calculated with the allele frequencies of the large and small donkey populations.…”

“…The genetic basis of body size variation in Chinese donkeys has been partially revealed, including the limited number of loci associated with TBX3 , LCORL , NCAPG , and FAM184B (Shen et al, 2021; Wang et al, 2021; Zhou et al, 2020). However, previous studies have been far from sufficient to illustrate the genetic basis of the trait.…”

“…Evidence supports that cell number is the primary factor that affects body size in mammals. [ 36 ]. Cell proliferation and apoptosis are inextricably linked to the number of cells [ 37 ].…”

“…Body size is a complex trait regulated by various genes and signal pathways. IGF1 [ 5 ], IGF2 [ 6 ], ACSL1 [ 7 ], ACSL3 [ 8 ], CDKL5 [ 9 ] and TBX3 [ 10 ] have been proven to be associated with the body size traits of Dezhou donkeys. For example, the TBX3 gene was found to be significantly associated with body height, body length and chest circumference in donkeys [ 10 ].…”
