A note on the moduli-induced gravitino problem

Abstract: The cosmological moduli problem has been recently reconsidered. Papers [1,2] show that even heavy moduli (m φ > 10 5 GeV) can be a problem for cosmology if a branching ratio of the modulus into gravitini is large. In this paper, we discuss the tachyonic decay of moduli into the Standard Model's degrees of freedom, e.g. Higgs particles, as a resolution to the moduli-induced gravitino problem. Rough estimates on model dependent parameters set a lower bound on the allowed moduli at around 10 8

“…For example, moduli couplings to the Higgs (∼ σH † H) are relevant operators and the moduli might undergo enhanced decay to Higgs bosons. However, such couplings were already considered some time ago by Brandenberger and Shuhmaher in [35,36]. They considered relevant operators arising from SUSY breaking for a range of moduli masses.…”

“…In the meantime, it is desirable to have a thorough understanding of the conditions under which the energy transfer from the inflationary sector to preheat matter fields is efficient. Further, the preliminary theory of preheating has been successfully applied in other areas, for instance in the notion of moduli trapping on the landscape [15,16,17], a possible solution [18] to the moduli-induced gravitino problem [95], or as an additional source of gravitational waves [19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26]. In light of these applications, it is necessary to investigate the viability of the proposed mechanisms, particularly as, in recent years, new developments in string cosmology (see [27,28,29,30] for recent reviews) have led to the emergence of several multi-field inflationary models; a few examples are inflation on the landscape [31,32], inflation driven by axions i.e.…”
