A note on the difference between the Moro reflex and the startle pattern.

Abstract

Pratt's identification of the Moro reflex with the startle pattern is wrong, since the former is an extension response and the latter a flexion response. The former is slow, the latter immediate. The former is confined to the first few months of life, the latter persists throughout life.
