A Note on Majorana Neutrinos, Leptonic CKM and Electron Electric Dipole Moment

Abstract: The electric dipole moment of the electron, d e , is known to vanish up to threeloops in the standard model with massless neutrinos. However, if neutrinos are massive Majorana particles, we obtain the result that d e induced by leptonic CKM mechanism is non-vanishing at two-loop order, and it applies to all massive Majorana neutrino models.

“…As pointed out in several analyses, neutrino Majorana phases can also give rise to non-vanishing contributions to charged lepton electric dipole moments (EDMs) [21]; in particular, the computation of EDMs in the presence of right-handed neutrinos (like in the Type-I seesaw model) has been addressed in refs. [22][23][24].…”

“…This mixing matrix leads to LFV processes like, for instance, radiative charged-lepton decays l i → l j γ (Cheng and Li, 1977;Marciano and Sanda, 1977;Petcov, 1977). Moreover, if CP is violated in the lepton sector, charged-lepton electric dipole moments get also a nonzero contribution (Ng and Ng, 1996). However, due to the smallness of the neutrino masses, the corresponding observables are negligibly small and unaccessible to experiments.…”
