A Non-Modulated Triaxial Magnetic Field Compensation Method for Spin-Exchange Relaxation-Free Magnetometer Based on Zero-Field Resonance

Abstract: In this study, we demonstrate a non-modulated triaxial magnetic field compensation method for spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) atomic magnetometers. We realize simultaneous compensation of the magnetic field along the pump and probe directions by maximizing the first order differential value of the zero-field resonance signal. The magnetic field perpendicular to the pump-probe plane is compensated by zeroing the DC response of the magnetometer. The zero-field resonance is obtained by applying a linearly ch… Show more

“…For better thermal insulation, the oven is placed in a vacuum environment of a few Pascal; rubber tubing is wrapped around this vacuum chamber to allow for water cooling. A set of flexible coils driven by function generators are glued to the vacuum chamber to generate a triaxial compensation magnetic field [26]. The outside of this chamber is covered with five-layer cylindrical magnetic shielding, which is made of permalloy with high relative permeability.…”

“…Li et al devised a parameter modulation algorithm along the pumping direction to perform magnetic compensation [25]. Zhao designed a non-modulated triaxial magnetic field compensation method based on zero-field resonance [26]. However, most algorithms use dual-beam magnetometers, which are difficult to integrate.…”

“…An atomic magnetometer operating in the spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) regime has achieved the highest sensitivity in low-frequency magnetic field measurement --0.16 fT / Hz 1 / 2 [10]. The SERF magnetometer needs to work in SERF regime which requires efficient laser pumping, weak magnetic fields environment and uniform high temperature environment [11][12][13]. Laser pumping technology achieves the spin polarization of alkali metal atoms, so that the alkali metal atomic spin direction is consistent; the weak magnetic field environment is the precondition of the atomic SERF regime, while the uniform high temperature environment is for high density and even distribution of alkali metal atoms.…”
