A non-Hebbian code for episodic memory

Abstract: Hebbian plasticity has long dominated neurobiological models of memory formation. Yet plasticity rules operating on one-shot episodic memory timescales rarely depend on both pre- and postsynaptic spiking, challenging Hebbian theory in this crucial regime.
